Jute-Wrapped Candle Holder

So, I was just sitting there one day, minding my own business, when all of a sudden I thought: “Whoa, I need to find a chunky candle holder and wrap it in jute cord. Stat.”

{Does that ever happen to you, or is it just me? Please tell me it happens to you, so I don’t feel like such a lunatic, because it happens to me all the time.}

Anyway, off I went to Goodwill to find said chunky candle holder, and lo and behold, I stumbled upon this beauty for $1.29.

Even better, pink tags were half off that day, and I had the jute cord on hand {you should too. Always. If you don’t, go get some right now. You can thank me later.}, so this entire project set me back a whopping $.65.

Because it was such a delightful shade of red {please note sarcasm}, I gave it a quick shot of off-white spray paint {only because that’s what I had on hand — you can just use anything neutral-colored} in case some of the holder peeked through the jute after it was wrapped.

Then I got a-wrappin’. I started by cutting the cord at an angle, so it would wrap more neatly. Then I just alternated gluing and wrapping until the whole thing was covered.

I decided to wrap the entire thing, including the top, because I don’t plan on using it with real, lit candles. If you are, you might want to leave the top of the candlestick plain.

I think it turned out so great.

One of the things I love about jute is that you can totally dress it up or down. Throw a pumpkin on the top and you have a great, casual fall decoration.

But you can also fancy him up with a sparkly battery-powered candle and some bling. Who knew jute was the little black dress of the craft world?
