There’s just something about a cheeseburger, you know?

Every once in a while, there’s just nothing better than a big, juicy burger smothered in beautiful, melty cheese. And maybe bacon.

So the other day, I got to thinking. Why does no one ever have cheeseburgers for breakfast?? I mean, people eat meat and cheese all the time in the morning, so why not a cheeseburger? Why do cheeseburgers discriminate against breakfast? It’s a travesty, I tell you. So we set out to correct this wrong. {Full disclosure: I give 100% of the credit to my husband for creating this burger. This would be reason #872 why he’s my favorite.}

My friends, I present to you: The Breakfast Cheeseburger.

Oh. Heck. Yes.

This is truly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever tasted.

It’s gooey and juicy and cheesy and delicious and all the other things that a good cheeseburger should be. But it’s for breakfast.

The best part is that you might already have everything you need for this burger in your fridge. If you don’t, swing by Walmart and get what you need. {Aside: if you don’t shop for groceries at Walmart, you need to start right now. It is so convenient, especially if you’re dragging a three-year-old around with you who would really prefer to be at home watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse than running errands.}

This is definitely going into the rotation of “special treat breakfasts” in our house.

For each burger
  1. 1 plain bagel
  2. 1 Tbsp. Miracle Whip
  3. 6 oz. breakfast sausage
  4. 2 tsp. Kraft Philly cream cheese
  5. 1 Kraft single
  6. 1/2 Tbsp. butter
  7. 1 large egg
Instructions
  1. 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Lightly toast bagel and spread with Miracle Whip.
  2. 2. Take approximately 4 oz. of the sausage and form into a thick patty. Press down on the center, creating a bit of a pocket. Place cream cheese in pocket and cover patty with remaining sausage, pressing down well on the edges to make sure it's sealed.
  3. 3. Place burger in skillet and cook uncovered for 4 minutes, then cover and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Flip and cook uncovered for 4 minutes, then top with Kraft Single and cover. Cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove burger from skillet and cover loosely with an aluminum foil tent to keep warm. Drain grease from skillet, but keep any brown bits that are on the bottom of the pan.
  4. 4. Melt butter in skillet and carefully crack egg into the melted butter. Cook for 1 minute, then place pan in oven for 2 minutes. This will ensure a perfectly cooked white while still keeping a runny yolk.
  5. 5. Place burger on bottom half of bagel and top with egg and other half of bagel. Enjoy!

    Cheeseburgers for breakfast? Heck to the yes!! I think cheese is a must, by the way. Plain burgers = boring burgers = lack of creativity 🙂
