I have spoken before about Connor’s eczema and how we’re trying to use more natural personal care products and products with natural ingredients in our house. That goes for things like laundry detergent, cleaning products and antiperspirant.

{Yup, I’m talking about deodorant here. I know I don’t usually talk about stuff like this, but I am training for a half marathon in September, so deodorant has become an important part of my daily life.}

Before you get all “Oh, she’s one of those runner people …” on me, let me explain something: I am not a runner. I am actually learning that I really do, in fact, hate running. I have tried to like running before and it never stuck. I thought that maybe if I really trained for it, then I would start to like it.

Yeah, no. Still don’t like it. I love how I feel when I’m done with the run, but during the actual run itself, pretty much all I’m thinking about is how much I can’t stand running.

{Although when I’m running in a race — that’s me in the pink; I know, I’m not an attractive runner — and I’m toward the end, and there’s a giant hill (which is just mean, by the way), and my boys decide to run with me, cheering me on … well, that’s probably as close as I’ll get to loving running. They are really squooshy sometimes.}

Anyway, I need to get in shape, and I am not good with the ol’ willpower. I figured I needed to do something where, if I don’t actually train for it, I’m going to injure or embarrass myself.

So a half marathon it is. The Erie Half Marathon, to be specific. Chosen partially because it’s almost completely flat {see above comment about hills in races being mean}, and partially because it’s at Presque Isle, where I spent most of my summer days growing up.

Yup, I can handle running there.

But here’s the thing: the race is in early September, which means that the bulk of my training is in the dead of summer. On top of that, we’re going to be at the shore for three weeks in July, and I have a 5-mile training run the day after we get there. Want to know what the weather’s going to be?

Sweet.

Here’s another thing about me: I hate to sweat. Like, hate it, hate it. I think it’s icky. But the reality is, when you run in 100 degree weather, you’re going to get sweaty. So I’ve been looking for a long-lasting deodorant that I can use to help combat some of this.

I was shopping on Amazon the other day, and I stumbled across this Tom’s of Maine Naturally Dry Antiperspirant/Deodorant. I loved how it contains no artificial fragrance or preservatives. I’ve used Tom’s of Maine products before and I’ve always been happy with them, so I decided to give it a shot.

{Aside: it may seem weird to shop for deodorant on Amazon, but since I signed up for Amazon Prime, I get everything on Amazon. You get free 2-day shipping on 20 million items, and since you can often get better prices on Amazon than at stores, it totally makes sense. Plus, you get free music streaming on Amazon music, unlimited movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Video, and over 500,000 free e-books. It’s awesome.}

Anyway, I got my deodorant in the mail on Wednesday, and decided to put it to the ultimate test yesterday. I did a 3-mile run yesterday morning, then we went to a bar/restaurant to watch the World Cup game {the place was completely packed, and it was really hot. And then Mason fell asleep on me. While ridiculously cute, it was sweaty and gross.}. THEN I went to yoga last night.

While the rest of me was a nasty sweaty mess, my underarms were nice and dry. I really couldn’t believe how well this worked. I’m looking forward to seeing if it holds up in the Hades-style weather we’ll be having at the beach.

You tell me: Are you a runner? Do you love it, or just do it because you feel like you should? Any tips for me about how to love it more?

    I enjoy the time to myself when I run but the act of running is something I don’t see myself ever falling in love with. #client
