DIY Dog Food Canister

Since Fletcher is getting so big {I just weighed him today and he’s up to 70 pounds! At just over 7 months! Yikes.}, we have been getting the 35lb bags of dog food. Which is great in that we don’t have to go buy food once a week, but then there’s just a big ole bag of food sitting in our garage. And don’t think for one second that Fletcher hasn’t gotten into the garage and jumped headfirst into that big ole bag. Because he has. Numerous times.

So I thought it was time to get a dog food canister for him. But when I went looking, they are crazy expensive. Like this one I found for $60. Even at HomeGoods, they’re around $25-$30. I’m not spending that much on a tin to hold my dog’s food.

So when I was at a thrift store a while back and saw this super pretty {hopefully you can read the sarcasm there} old popcorn tin for $.50, I had an idea.

This was one of the easiest projects I’ve ever done.

I just spray painted the tin {with the lid on} Aqua Ocean by Valspar. I used several coats to make sure it was completely covered.

Then I just slapped on the cutest dog bowl decal ever from JD Decal on Etsy. I mean, seriously. How adorbs is this?? And that was only about $10 including shipping.

That’s it! Now I have a super cute little dog food canister and can perhaps stop Fletcher from Greg Louganis-ing himself into a giant bag of food.

Perhaps. I’m not going to hold my breath, though.
