So here’s a fact about me: I am slightly obsessed with dip. Chips and dip are my favorite food, which I’ve mentioned before, but I have also been known to order food in restaurants based solely on whether or not I could dip it in something.
I don’t even care what kind of dip, or what I’m dipping.
I am just all about the dipping, people.
So it goes without saying that for events like Super Bowl {or like, I don’t know, Wednesday afternoon}, I’m going to have dip available. Usually several different kinds. And one of the things I love doing is having a slightly healthier option as well, like this Fluffy Brown Sugar Apple Dip.
Now, of course I am not saying the dip itself is healthy in this scenario. Because cream cheese + brown sugar + Cool Whip = not so much in the the healthy department. But the fun things is that the dipper for this is apple slices. And fruit obviously = healthy. This very clearly goes along with my firm belief that, as long as something contains fruit, it’s healthy. This would also be why I insist that when my kids go to Sweet Frog or any of those top-your-own ice cream or yogurt places, they must get a cherry on top. Because that obvi cancels out the 87 pounds of candy they just piled on.
Duh.
I’m pretty sure each of my kids ate about 6 apples the last time I made this. So if you’re looking to get your kids to eat some more fruit, give this a shot. My kids have been known to ask for this for dessert, so again, while the dip itself isn’t exactly the healthiest thing in the world, I’d rather them have some apples and brown sugar dip than, say, leftover Halloween candy.
{Are we the only ones who still have leftover Halloween candy lying around?? I swear, it’s like the bowl regenerates itself.}
I look at it along the same lines as a crudité platter or using celery sticks to shovel buffalo chicken dip into your face. Whatever makes you feel better about eating something, my friends.
This is also pretty much the easiest thing to make ever. I literally cannot think of a way you could mess this up. Mix up cream cheese, brown sugar, vanilla and Cool Whip. Serve. I’m 99% sure Mason could make this, and he’s 5.
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp vanilla bean paste {or vanilla extract}
- 8 oz tub Cool Whip, thawed
- 1. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add in vanilla bean paste and mix until thoroughly combined. Add in about 1/3 of the Cool Whip and mix thoroughly. Gently fold in remaining Cool Whip. Serve with apple slices.
