My Current Obsessions

How’s it going, everyone?

I wanted to start a new series today where I share with all of you some of the things I’m currently obsessing over. These may be products, activities, ideas or websites, but regardless of what these are, I am never being paid to promote any of these items. Some of the links will be affiliate links, which just means that I get a small {seriously tiny} percentage of the sale when you click the link in this post. But I promise you that I will NEVER include anything in here that I was asked to talk about or that my family or I don’t love and use ourselves. I just love telling people about things I love, so I decided to do that on a larger scale with all of you.

Podcasts

So here’s a little fact about me: I tend to be veeeeery late to jump onto the bandwagon for things. For example, I am currently watching Season 6 of The Walking Dead, which I had never watched until I started with Season 1 a few months ago. After I catch up, I plan on starting Breaking Bad, which I’ve never see a single episode of. That show is so old that it’s not even on anymore.

Another perfect example of this is podcasts. Which have been around for, oh, I don’t know… over 10 years. But I just started listening to them last year. {Seriously, I’m not even joking. But I am slightly ashamed.}

Serial podcast

The first one I ever listened to was Serial, and I was immediately hooked. Each season follows one story, told week-by-week. Season 1 was about Adnan Syed, who was convicted of killing his girlfriend in Baltimore back in 1999. It was completely, utterly fascinating to hear how the story unfolded. If I’m being honest, Season 2 {about Bowe Bergdahl, the American soldier who was accused of desertion} was a bit of a letdown after how awesome Season 1 was. I’m still holding out hope for Season 3, which is supposedly coming out soon.

Young House Love Has A Podcast

The Chris Loves Julia Podcast

I am now obsessed with DIY and design podcasts, with Young House Love Has a Podcast and The Chris Loves Julia Podcast being my absolute favorites. {In fact, this series was inspired by similar segments that they each do on their podcasts.} Both podcasts have inspired me to do so much more around my house, and even more important, they’re both totally entertaining and hilarious. I pretty much want to be friends with all of them.

So if you are a podcast novice like me, or if you {like most of the world} have been listening to them for years but haven’t checked out these ones, do so immediately. What are your favorite podcasts?

My Butter Bell

I feel a little silly being so excited about my butter bell, but I really can’t even help it.

Butter bell

First of all, look how cute it is.

And look how well it matches my new mixer! {Also a current obsession, btw.}

In case you don’t know, a butter bell is a little two-part container that holds butter {duh}. You pack butter into the lid, and pour a bit of cold water into the base. When you replace the lid, the water keeps the air from hitting the butter, so you can leave it out on your counter without the danger of it spoiling. Which means that you have perfectly soft butter all the time. And it’s awesome.

It’s the little things in life, people…

SnapPower Guidelight

In case it’s not insane enough to be obsessed with a butter holder, I’ll go ahead and add this crazy cool little power outlet cover/nightlight to the mix.

guidelight

I am in love with it. I installed it myself, so clearly it’s easy, because let me tell you: me + anything electrical = hellz no. I did turn off the power before I did it {to the whole house, mind you — see above statement re: electrical stuff and me — because I couldn’t figure out which circuit breaker would turn off the upstairs hallway}, but that was by far the most difficult part.

You literally unscrew the current outlet cover, slide this one on, and screw it back in. That is it. The light automatically comes on when it senses that it’s dark enough, so there’s no worrying about whether or not the night light is on. I put it in our upstairs hallway, across from the bathroom, so if anyone needs to get up in the night, they won’t be crashing into walls. Bonus!

Goodreads

So I feel like this probably goes right along with podcasts {also, there’s a new thing out called the iPhone. If you haven’t heard of it, check it out}, but I just recently started really using Goodreads, and I absolutely love it.

Goodreads

If you aren’t familiar with Goodreads, it’s a free website for book lovers. You can post reviews of books you’ve read and read other people’s reviews and recommendations. You can keep track of what you’ve already read and get suggestions for and keep a running list of books you want to read in the future.

I absolutely love reading, and would read all day every day if I could, but I sometimes had trouble finding new books to read. I’d ask around on Facebook or see a random Instagram post here and there, or I’d wander around the library and legit judge books by their cover. When I did get a book recommendation, half the time I’d just forget what it was by the time I got to the library.

I now have the Goodreads app on my phone, so when I go to the library, I can go on there and see what books I have on my Want to Read list. I have found so many good books through this site/app, and I love sharing my reviews as well.

If you’re on Goodreads {if you’re not, you should check it out right now!}, add me as a friend and you can see what I’m reading and share your recommendations with me!

So there you have it: a few of my current obsessions right now. Let me know what you’re loving in the comment section below!
