20 perfect gifts for the crafter and/or DIYer in your life

1. Color at Home: A Young House Love Coloring Book – I love a good coloring book, and this one is my favorite. {On another note: if you don’t read John and Sherry Petersik’s blog Young House Love, you need to. They also have a podcast that is amazeballs.} Anyway, back to the coloring book. The pictures are all of rooms, so you can try out new possible color schemes for your house or just have fun coloring. Purchase Color at Home here!

2. Prismacolor Colored Pencils – If you’re going to get someone a coloring book, you pretty much have to get them colored pencils, right? Right. These ones are the most amazing quality you could ever find. Purchase Prismacolor Colored Pencils here!

3. Craftsy Classes – You are probably going to get sick of seeing me recommend Craftsy classes on these gift guides, but they are pretty much my favorite gift ever. You can find classes in pretty much any category you could imagine — like sewing, quilting, knitting, embroidery, jewelry, painting, drawing, cake decorating… you name it, it’s there. I’ve never taken a Craftsy class that I didn’t love, and I can’t recommend them enough. Purchase a Craftsy class here

4. Silhouette Cutting Machine – I have a Silhouette Portrait, and I am kind of obsessed, but I am definitely putting a larger version on my list this year. My favorite thing to make with my Silhouette are t-shirts with iron-on vinyl, but there are bajillions of things you can make with these — wall decals and other wall art; personalized items like mugs, lunch boxes and bags; stencils; holiday decorations; cards, scrapbook pages and other paper crafts… the list is practically endless. Purchase a Silhouette Cutting Machine here!

5. Gingercake Patterns – I’ve talked about Virginia and her crazy cute patterns before — remember when I made that little monster bag for Mason way back when? She has so many more options now {pillows, stuffed animals, bags, lunch boxes, art caddies…}, but her patterns are still inexpensive and super easy to follow. Purchase a Gingercake Pattern here!

6. Pattern Makeup Bag – If the crafter in your life likes the IDEA of patterns more than the actual patterns themselves, then you can’t go wrong with this adorable makeup bag that looks like it’s made from a vintage sewing pattern. It even has a little measuring tape bow. I mean, come on. Purchase the Holding Pattern Makeup Bag here!

7. Artist Palette Platter – If your DIYer also loves to entertain, why not get them a serving platter that looks like an artist’s palette? I’m picturing how cute this would be with appetizers or cookies on it, and I can’t even stand it. Purchase the Artist Palette Platter here!

8. The Complete Book of Chalk Lettering – I am a little bit crazily obsessed with this book. I do NOT have great handwriting, and I’ve always been in awe of those people who can rock up a chalkboard. Because when I’ve tried in the past, it ends up looking like something my 6-year-old did. {No offense, Mase Train.} But this book break down the letters so simply, and even shows how to do flourishes, flowers and other ways to jazz it up. This would make a cute gift bundle with a fun chalkboard and some little packs of chalk! Purchase The Complete Book of Chalk Lettering here!

9. Cordless Glue Gun – I can honestly say that a week cannot go by in my house without me using my glue gun. I seriously use it for ev-er-y-thing. This is the one I have, and it’s awesome because it’s cordless, so you can use it pretty much anywhere. Purchase the Cordless Glue Gun here!

10. Sewing Machine – I got my sewing machine {this is the one that I have, the Singer Fashion Mate 7256} a few years ago for Christmas, and it was hands down my favorite gift that year. If you have someone in your life who loves to sew or wants to learn how to sew, a new sewing machine is a fantastic gift. Purchase the Singer Fashion Mate 7256 here

11. Craftsy Craft Kits – Books and patterns are great, but if your recipients are anything like me, they can find any excuse to put off a project, like, “I don’t even have all the stuff I need to make this!” But when you get them a whole kit that includes the pattern, instructions, supplies, and maybe even video instruction, there’s no excuse. Whether they love to knit or crochet, quilt, or even bake cakes, you can find a kit for something they’ll love! Purchase a Craftsy Craft Kit here!

12. Screen Printing Kit – I have always thought it would be so much fun to learn how to screen print, but I thought it was entirely too complicated. Then I found this fabulous kit that includes everything you’d need! I just love the idea of this — there are so many fun things you could do! Purchase a Screen Printing Kit here!

13. Crafters Gonna Craft Mug – I love fun mugs, and I don’t even drink coffee! Purchase the Crafters Gonna Craft Mug here!

14. Sew Sampler Monthly Quilting Box – I am a giant sucker for monthly subscription boxes. It’s like Christmas every month! This is a great one for quilters — each month, the recipient receives a themed box full of quilting goodies, including fabric, notions, patterns, threads and some fun bonus items. Purchase a Sew Sampler Monthly Quilting Box here!

15. Gift Cards – I know a lot of people pooh-pooh on gift cards, but I absolutely love them. I love giving them, I and love getting them. I mean, wouldn’t you rather give someone the gift of being able to choose something that they truly love, rather than giving them something that they might not be crazy about but feel obligated to keep because it’s a gift? And if you take the time to find a store you know they’ll love shopping in, it’s not going to be a throw away gift. I will never be convinced that gift cards are a bad gift, ever. Gift cards from stores like Amazon, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Jo-Ann Fabrics are great for most crafters — even Lowe’s but you should do a little digging to see if the DIYer in your life has any favorite stores.

16. Magazine Subscriptions – Magazines are a great gift because they are relatively inexpensive and they are the gift that keeps on giving every month! Again, go with what your recipient loves, but Do It Yourself, Creative Craft Ideas, Martha Stewart Living and HGTV Magazine are all great options.

17. Calligraphy Starter Kit – If you have someone on your list who’s always wanted to try out hand lettering, check out this awesome kit that includes everything you need to get started with modern calligraphy. Purchase the Calligraphy Starter Kit here!

18. DIY Felt Succulents Kit – This is like my spirit animal kit. I love making stuff, and I love succulents, but I have the world’s blackest thumb and cannot keep a plant alive to save my life. This kit includes everything you need to make 18 gorgeous, colorful felt succulents. LOVE! Purchase the DIY Felt Succulents Kit here!

19. DIY Semi-Precious Necklace Kit – I don’t know about you, but I still get so proud of myself when someone compliments something I’m wearing and I can say, “Thanks, I made it!” This kit comes with all the materials and instructions you’ll need to make a necklace customized just for you. Purchase the DIY Semi-Precious Necklace Kit here
