Am I the only one who has mini candy canes left over from Christmas? Hopefully not. Hopefully I’m not the gross one who still has Christmas candy hanging around. {In the interest of full disclosure, I’m pretty sure that we still have some Halloween candy around here too.}
Anyway, if you also have some candy canes left, have I got a fun little project for you today.
Candy cane mug hearts.
I have seen a bunch of cute candy cane heart projects on Pinterest, but I didn’t want to use chocolate. At first I was planning on just melting the candy canes together to make little hearts, but then I thought of leaving the bottoms open so you could hang them on the side of a cup.
Holy moly, I’m glad I had that thought, because these are just the cutest.
And, like everything I make, they are so easy.
First, preheat your oven to 250 degrees and line a baking pan with parchment or a Silpat. Arrange the candy canes on the parchment with the ends of the hooked part touching, but the bottom ends about 1/2″ apart.
Then carefully place your baking sheet in the oven and bake for around 5-8 minutes. You want the candy canes to start getting soft {they will start to puff up a tiny bit}, but keep a close eye on them so they don’t totally melt.
Once they’re soft, pinch the top ends together {I just did this quickly with my fingers, but you might want to wear a glove or something — just don’t burn yourself}.
Then, let cool for a few minutes and hook those bad boys on a mug!
You could also bundle these up with the projects below and make a super cute Valentine’s Day gift for someone!
