In honor of National Pretzel Day tomorrow {yup, it’s another random national food day! Like Penuche Fudge Day and National Corn Chip Day}, I decided to do something ridiculous.
I was thinking about doing a post on how to make soft pretzels, or maybe pretzel dogs, or maybe even a delicious dip made specifically for pretzels. Then I was at the grocery store one day, and I remembered this recipe I found a while back for Ruffles Marshmallow Krispie Treats from Lauren’s Latest. {On a side note, I am totally making these at some point.}
And I thought, “If she can make those with potato chips, why can’t I make them with pretzels?”
Oh yes, I am a genius. At least I thought I was, until I made the stupid mistake of Googling “pretzel marshmallow treats” and realized that once again, I was not the first person to have what I thought was my own brilliant idea. Stupid Google, dream killer.
But, whatever, I was totes excited for these. I love me some sweet and salty. Then I remembered this gigantic box of Skor bars that Dave brought me back from Hershey. {Having a husband who has Hershey as a client is both a blessing and a curse.} I had been trying to figure out a way to get rid of these {in a way that didn’t involve me just repeatedly shoveling them into my mouth}, and this was perfect.
So I present to you, my friends, Pretzel Toffee Marshmallow Treats.
They are ridonkulous. Sweet, salty, crunchy… I’m not quite certain how I didn’t eat the entire batch.
And as a bonus, they’re just as easy to make as regular rice krispies treats, so you can make these anytime you have a salty-sweet craving.
Pretzel Toffee Marshmallow Treats
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 1 10- oz bag marshmallows {either 40 large or 4 cups miniature}
- 1/2 cup marshmallow fluff
- 1 10- oz bag pretzel sticks
- 4 chocolate covered toffee candy bars {like Skor or Heath} chopped
- cooking spray
Instructions
- 1. Spray a 9x13 inch pan with cooking spray. Chop or break up pretzels into small pieces.
- 2. Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and marshmallow fluff and stir until melted. Remove from heat.
- 3. Add pretzels and stir until completely coated. Stir in toffee pieces.
- 4. Press mixture into prepared pan and allow to cool. Once cooled, cut treats into squares and serve.
