I’m so excited to have my sweet blogging friend Kayla here today. Thanks, Kayla, for helping me out while I’m on vacay and for sharing this amazing recipe!!
Hello everyone, and nice to meet you! My name is Kayla and I’m the creative behind saynotsweetanne.com. I’m super excited to be posting here for Jenn, who has been an excellent food contributor on my blog for the past few months. Happy to return the favor!
Lets get down to it: Who doesn’t like a rootbeer float? They are delicious, creamy and really hit the spot on a hot summer day. But sometimes they overflow, get you all sticky, and you drink all the rootbeer and wind up with a mug of vanilla ice cream. Well not anymore, folks!
When my darling mother gave me an ice cream maker, this root beer ice cream recipe was the first I tried. But don’t worry, you don’t need the maker. I’ve got alternate instructions for the ice-cream-maker-less {totally a word} among you!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup 2% milk (omit if doing without an ice cream maker)
- about 1 dram root beer candy flavoring (The kind used for hard candy. I got mine from Hobby Lobby- you can get it at Amazon here: Rootbeer Flavoring Oil)
How To Make It:
With Ice Cream Maker:
- Prepare your ice maker per manufacturer’s instructions.
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl until well mixed.
- Pour into ice cream maker and freeze per manufacturer’s instructions.
- Place in air tight container and keep in freezer!
Without Ice Cream Maker:
- Place a metal cake pan in the freezer.
- Whip the cream.
- While whipping, combine root beer flavor and condensed milk.
- Fold condensed milk mixture into the whipped cream
- Freeze in the pre-chilled metal pan, stirring every hour for 2-4 hours. That’s it!
