I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Arla Dofino. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation. #HavartiParty #MC
If your kids are anything like mine, the first thing they do when they get home from school is make a beeline for snacks. I’m not sure why they act like they haven’t eaten for days when they get home, because I’m fairly certain that they eat not only lunch but also a snack, but whatever. Apparently learning’s hungry business.
We have a cupboard in our kitchen that has a pull-out drawer, and that’s our snack drawer. So the kids go right there, grab whatever they want, and go to town.
Now, I try to keep relatively healthy snacks in there, but they’re still not really always eating the most nutritious food in the world.
So the other day, I decided to get all fancy up on them, and I created a cheese plate for their after-school snack.
Behold that fanciness.
The boys were way impressed. David actually said, “Whoa, that’s our SNACK?!? It looks like something you’d order in a fancy restaurant!”
Score some mom points for me!
The funny thing is, this took a grand total of about 3 minutes to put together.
I started with some Arla Dofino cheeses that I picked up at my local grocery store. These cheeses are awesome. Not only are they delicious, but they are crafted in an environmentally friendly way in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, free of added hormones and with quality, natural ingredients, they way they have been for more than 100 years.
I chose Havarti with Dill and Edam, which are both creamy, relatively mild cheeses that my kids love. I’m pretty sure Mason would eat his body weight in havarti with dill if we let him. {Note: we don’t.}
Look how delicious that Havarti looks! All those yummy little dill flecks all through it… Yum.
And the Edam. All 3 boys were blown away by the red wax wrapper, as I remember being when I was a kid. Mason said he liked it because “It makes the cheese look pretty.” Well, ok, buddy, whatever works for you.
To put this cheese plate together, I cut a few slices of each kind of cheese and then cut them in half to make them perfectly bite-sized. I put those on a plate, dumped some cheddar bacon spread in a bowl, and tossed two different kinds of crackers on the plate. Then I just filled in the empty spots with grapes.
Like I said: three minutes, tops.
{I call these looks “For the love of Pete, Mom, stop taking pictures and let us eat our durn snack!”}
See what I mean about Mason and the Havarti? First, check out his stash in his left hand. Then, take note of how his right hand is moving so quickly to secure more cheese that you can’t even see it. My man loves himself some cheese, people.
Connor was slightly more subdued, but way more laser-focused.
I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be doing this more often, as the boys were seriously blown away, and I scored some mad mom points.
