We love pizza in our house. We eat it at least once a week, because we have Pizza Party Fridays. It’s a such a fun way to create a little extra family time. We usually get smaller, individual pizza crusts, sauce, cheese and a bunch of toppings and let the kids go nuts making their own pizzas.
They end up having a blast, and, even though my kids are on the whole really good eaters, I have found that they are even more likely to eat their entire dinner when they made it themselves. Plus, they have a tendency to get a little more adventurous than they otherwise would have.
Now that it’s summer, we have started using the grill to cook our pizzas, which again makes dinner that much more fun. Mason thought it was CRAZY that we were cooking pizzas outside instead of in the oven! {What can I say, the kid is pretty easily amused.}
So the other day, I was at Walmart and saw these DIGIORNO® Design-A-Pizza kits. I love having a couple of pizzas in the freezer for those days when 6:00 p.m. rolls around and you realize that you don’t have anything for dinner, so I grabbed a couple.
What a fabulous idea! These kits come with a pizza that’s already prepared with sauce and cheese, as well as a packet of ingredients that you can put on yourself.
They come in three flavors: Pepperoni & Sausage with Peppers; Chicken, Green Peppers and Red Onion; Spinach, Tomato and Red Onion with Pepperoni.
We thought it would be so much fun to make some Funny Face Grilled Pizzas.
Connor was at track, so D and Mason were in charge of making them.
They took their job very seriously. Mason especially was so excited to be making his own “funny guy” pizza! This guy was their Chicken, Green Peppers and Red Onion pizza creation. His green pepper and red onion “hair” cracks me up — I think it makes him look like Julius Caesar with a laurel wreath.
But this guy, from the Pepperoni & Sausage with Peppers pizza kit, was definitely my favorite. I can’t even handle how hilarious his green pepper handlebar mustache is.
You can tell they were pretty pleased with their creations as well.
And I think that pride was justified, because they look fabulous!
The thing that amazed me more than anything is that every single one of my kids ate pieces that had green peppers and onions on them. I am pretty sure that there is absolutely no way that they would have eaten peppers and onions on a pizza if they hadn’t been part of the “funny guy’s” hair or mustache.
They have already asked when we can do funny face pizza night again!
You tell me: What is your favorite thing to make with your kids?

This looks like so much fun! I make pizza for my girls every Friday night. I feel a little silly saying that I never thought of letting them make fun faces. We will be doing this…probably this week. Thanks so much for the great idea! Pinning!
