Ok, somehow, summer is pretty much over. My boys go back to school on Monday, and I know a lot of kids around the country have already gone back. How has this happened?? I swear Mason and I just ambushed them with squirt guns and sponge bombs when they got off the bus on their last day of school!
Ugh.
So we are trying to pack in as much more outdoor time as we possibly can into these last weeks of summer break. We spent the day at Hersheypark yesterday, and they have been playing outside pretty much constantly all summer long.
Of course, when they play outside, they work up a heck of an appetite and are constantly coming inside asking for snacks. Now that I’ve been working on having my whole family eat healthier, I try to give them healthy snacks like fruit or veggies with dip, but let’s be honest: they’re kids. What they really want is chocolate and marshmallows and candy and cookies.
So I have been stocking up like crazy of CLIF Kid snacks. They are nutritious — and crazy delicious — bars and fruit snacks that contain no high fructose corn syrup, synthetic preservatives or artificial flavors. And they come in a bajillion different flavors.
David loves the Iced Oatmeal Cookie and Chocolate Chip Zbars.
Connor’s favorite is the S’mores Zbars.
And Mason eats the Iced Lemon Cookie Zbars like it’s his job.
And all 3 of them love the Zfruit ropes — Mason thought he was eating candy the first time he had one!
I have gone a tad bit overboard stocking up for lunch boxes, but I love that they’re asking for snacks that are actually good for them! I plan on having tons of these in our snack drawer once fall starts too, because our playing outside certainly doesn’t end when summer does! We are so lucky to live in an amazing neighborhood with a ton of kids, and it makes my heart happy to look outside and seeing 4 or 5 extra kids running around my yard with my boys.
CLIF Kid encourages kids to go out and play like this too, and to demonstrate their commitment to getting kids to do a digital detox and get out of wifi range, the company recently created the CLIF Kid Play Hub to inspire outdoor experiences that will encourage kids (and their parents!) to get outside and just be kids! The hub provides tips and tools for parents and communities to promote play for kids of all ages.
What sports and games do your kids love to play when they’re outside? Post a picture of them playing and use the hashtag #outtoplay!
