Magic Shell.
Remember that stuff? You pour it over ice cream and it forms a hard, chocolatey coating that you get to crack through with your spoon.
Now, I am not a chocolate person. 99 times out of 100, I am going to pick vanilla, but for some reason, Magic Shell was always a favorite. It was such a huge treat to get it when I was little, and I still feel like it’s a treat now.
So when I discovered that you could make it at home — with only two ingredients {!!} — I was a happy girl.
Ingredient #1: chocolate {I usually use chocolate chips, but if you want to get all fancy up in here, knock yourself out and use some other type of chocolate}.
Ingredient #2: coconut oil.
Have you jumped on the coconut oil bandwagon yet? This stuff is pretty much amazing. There are approximately 1 million different ways to use it {check out this great list from Almost Exactly}. I’ve personally used it as shaving cream, lotion, bath oil and as ointment on Connor’s eczema.
But you can also use it to cook. And the cool thing about it is that it’s a solid at room temperature, but if you heat it up just the tiniest bit, it turns to liquid. Which is why, when you melt it with some chocolate and then pour it over ice cream, it creates the most beautiful, crunchy shell.
Ah-mazing.
