These mini ice cream cone cake pops can be made in minutes using a genius cake pop trick!
I’m pretty sure these mini ice cream cone cake pops are the cutest things I’ve ever made in my whole life. If I do say so myself.
I mean, seriously.
I made these for the first time for David’s school treat for his birthday in May, and the kids {and teachers!} went crazy over them. I made them again for the 4th of July, and again, they were gobbled right up.
And the best part is that these can be made literally in minutes — with no baking, mixing or messy frosting!
The key to these cake pops is these little Joy Cone Mini Cups.
They are the tiniest, cutest little things ever. I got mine at Wegmans, but I’ve also seen them at Walmart, Giant and a few other grocery stores. I mean, look at them!
Come on.
So I saw these, and I knew I had to make something with them. Then I thought of my Donut Hole Cake Pops, and I realized that I was going to have to use donut holes to make little, teeny-tiny mini ice cream cone cake pops.
They are the quickest, yet most adorable little treat you could ever make. I think it took me a total of a half hour to make 36 of them for David’s birthday. Way better than traditional cake pops, which take for-freaking-ever, what with mixing the batter, baking the cake, waiting for it to cool, crumbling it up, mixing in the frosting, rolling the cake balls, chilling the cake balls, then dipping and decorating them.
Anyway, enough rambling, let’s get to the how-to.
Melt a 12-oz bag of candy melts according to the package directions. I used white for vanilla ice cream, but you could use whatever color you want. Take your donut hole and dip it about halfway into the candy melts. Immediately place it, candy-side down, onto your mini ice cream cone.
It doesn’t matter what it looks like at this point, because right now, you’re just using the candy melts to glue the donut hole into the cone. Set this aside and repeat with your remaining donut holes and ice cream cones. By the time you finish your last one, your first one should be hardened enough to begin the next step, but if it’s not, wait a few minutes to make sure that donut hole is really stuck in there.
Holding the cone by the bottom, dip the entire donut hole into the candy melts. When you flip it back upright, wiggle the cone in your fingers a bit to get the candy melts to drip down the side a bit to give you the look of melting ice cream. If you want to add sprinkles {and I’m not sure why you wouldn’t!}, slap some on top before the candy melts harden back up.
And that, my friends, is all there is to it.
Can you even handle the cuteness? I don’t think I can.
These are perfect for a birthday, but you can throw whatever color sprinkles you want up there to make them for whatever occasion you want!
Plus, they’re super easy to transport, so they’re great for pot lucks or the next time you need to take a dessert somewhere. Everyone will think you spent forever on them, even though they took you no time at all.
You tell me: Do you like to make traditional cake pops, or are they way too much work for you?

A easier way to do this is to place your cones in a muffin pan and pour your batter in the ice cream cones to cook. Once finished baking and cooling just dip the cones in the icing and ad sprinkle. This way you are getting a full cone of cake not just the top.
