I’ve mentioned before that I love the 4th of July. I also love easy and inexpensive projects. So today, I’m going to share another last-minute idea that you can use to give yourself a fun, festive and patriotic Independence Day!
This American flag is made from paint chips and a canvas. That’s it. I got the canvas at Big Lots for $4, and the paint chips were free from Walmart. Can’t get much better than that! I used hot glue, but you could use Mod Podge or whatever glue you have on hand. Also, if you don’t have a canvas, you could always use a small white foam board or just use card stock and put the final product in a frame.
To begin, select your paint colors. I chose a few different shades of red, white and blue, because I liked the way it looked and I didn’t want it to be perfect, but you could use all the same shades of each color if you prefer. I also kept the paint names on the swatches because I thought it looked cool, but if you want to trim those off, knock yourself out.
Lay out your chips the way you want them to give yourself a rough idea of where to glue.
Then just start gluing them down! {If you’re using card stock or foam board, you could also use double-stick tape instead of glue.} For me, it was easiest to glue down all of the blues and then go row-by-row on the reds and whites.
That’s all there is to it! Don’t worry if you didn’t trim all your swatches the exact same size, it isn’t supposed to be perfect — and in fact, I like it better that it’s not.
This little guy now lives on my mantel, with a few other projects I’ve done.
The big star on the left had been hanging in our basement stairway for years. I decided to bring him out for some fresh air. The layered vase and glass are actually red, white and black beans! How cute are those?!? I got that idea from Makoodle. The framed art is a free printable from The 36th Avenue. And finally, the little flag on the right was a DIY project from last year. Get the instructions here.
Hope everyone has a phenomenal 4th!!
