Over the past couple of years, smoothies have become my jam. I love pretty much everything about them. I love that they’re a super quick, on-the-go breakfast, which is perfect for someone like me, who is constantly, always, forever running late. I love that they’re healthy but don’t taste that way. I love that you can transform a dessert like strawberry cheesecake into a delicious, good-for-you smoothie. Or how about peach cobbler? Yeah, you heard me. A peach cobbler smoothie. That’s good for you.
And oh, so ridiculously delicious.
And super, duper easy.
I have a few tricks up my sleeve for getting a perfect, smooth, creamy smoothie every time. First, I always start my fruit smoothies with frozen fruit, because it blends up so much smoother, and it doesn’t get watered down with ice.
Second, blend your smoothies for at least 3-5 minutes. I know that seems like a crazy long time, but trust me. Not only does blending your smoothies for so long make them really smooth and creamy, it also whips extra air into them, which increases the volume and therefore makes you fuller even though you’re drinking less. {Boom. Science.}
Finally, and this is my crazy pants secret ingredient, add in some cottage cheese.
I know, I know. I had the same reaction when I first heard about people adding cottage cheese into their smoothies. It sounds really gross and nasty, and I just pictured drinking a chunky, lumpy smoothie, which skeeved me out to no end. But if you’re blending your smoothie for as long as I recommend, the cottage cheese blends completely in and adds a creaminess that makes it taste much thicker and richer than it does without it.
Another thing I love about smoothies is that you literally just chuck everything into your blender {I have a Ninja Mega Kitchen System} and let her rip. I barely even measure anything anymore.
