These peanut butter-chocolate chewy granola bars are so delicious and easy to make, and they make a perfect after-school {or anytime!} snack!
I am not entirely sure what happens all day at my children’s school, but I’m fairly certain it involves some type of torture and starvation abuse, because when they get home, they are ravenous.
Now, I know that they eat breakfast, because I watch them do it. And I know that I pack them a lunch, and often a snack, but apparently they’re forced to feed those to the wolves or something at school, because when they get home, it’s like they haven’t eaten in months. Their first stop is always our snack drawer.
And one of their favorite go-to snacks is chewy granola bars. They love them. I think Mason would eat about 25 of them in a given day if I let him.
I’ve never made granola bars before, so I decided to give it a shot. I was originally going to just use plain old peanut butter in them, but then I was shopping at Walmart the other day and spotted something called Reese’s Spreads.
**Sound of breaks screeching**
WHAT?!? A peanut butter and chocolate spread from Reese’s?!? Uh, OK!
So I set to work making some peanut butter-chocolate chewy granola bars. And let me tell you, they are ridiculous. And so, SO easy!
They’re also no-bake, which is even better. You can whip up a batch in under 10 minutes — the hardest part of this recipe is waiting for them to set up and cool in the fridge.
All you have to do is melt together some butter, honey and Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Spread in a saucepan and let it simmer for a few minutes. Then, add in some vanilla bean paste and pour the mixture over some quick-cooking oats and crispy rice cereal. I also threw in some mini Reese’s Pieces, because… well, why not?
Pat the whole shebang into an 8×8 pan, and throw some more mini Reese’s Pieces on the top if you want to get all crazy. Let it cool in the fridge for about a half hour, and they’re ready to cut and devour.
I asked my kids if they were as good as the store-bought ones, and they all said they were even better! I have to say, I tend to agree. I made these yesterday afternoon, and over half of them are already gone.
If you want to try the Reese’s Spreads for yourself, you’re in luck. The weekend of November 13-16, Walmarts across the country will be giving out free samples of the Reese’s Spreads with apples. Click here to find a store near you!
