I have mentioned before that I am not a huge coffee drinker. My husband has to have his coffee every morning, but I just can’t bring myself to be a big fan of plain coffee. Fancy-pants Starbucks® drinks on the other hand, oh heck yes.
But I can’t always get to Starbucks®, so I like to try to recreate some of my favorites at home. Like this Peppermint Mocha Latte. Hooooly moly, is it good. It’s so perfect for the holiday season — and you’d be surprised at how easy it is to make.
And you don’t even need to go anywhere fancy or get any crazy ingredients, either. I actually got everything I needed when I was at Giant Eagle the other day.
You just need coffee, milk, hot cocoa mix, peppermint extract {or peppermint syrup}, and of course whipped cream and chocolate chips for a garnish — because why would you ever drink something that didn’t have whipped cream and chocolate chips on it, am I right??.
I started with a cup of the Starbucks® Holiday Blend ground coffee {the Holiday Blend also comes in K-Cup® pods as well, for all you Keurig lovers out there!}.
I love how you can buy Starbucks® at-home coffee now, because you can create special drinks for every holiday. My husband gets Starbucks® coffees all year round — his favorite is the Breakfast Blend.
Then add in a packet of hot cocoa mix and some hot milk {you could use one of those fancy milk frothers if you have one, but if you don’t, no biggy. Just heat it up on the stove or in the microwave and whisk it like crazy until it gets foamy}.
Look at that fun foam!
A couple of drops of peppermint extract {or peppermint syrup} and some whipped cream and chocolate chips, and you’re good to go.
I love how the hot cocoa mix gives it a sweet, chocolatey taste, and the peppermint jazzes it up and gives it a little holiday kick.
What is your favorite Starbucks® holiday drink? Do you ever make them at home?
