If you’re looking for a simple and versatile recipe that your family and guests will love, this is it. You can make this summer fruit salsa in minutes (it’s pretty much just chopping!) with whatever fruits you love and/or have on hand. It’s always one of the first dishes to go whenever I serve it at a tailgate or cookout. Make it for your next brunch, or even as an after-school snack, and I guarantee you won’t have leftovers.
This post is all about how to make fruit salsa.
You know those go-to recipes that we all have? The ones that we immediately think of when we’re asked to bring something to a get-together? That are super easy to make but don’t seem that way? That everyone gets excited about when they find out you brought it again?
Yeah, this fruit salsa is one of those recipes.
It’s so incredibly easy to make (it pretty much just involves chopping a bunch of stuff and throwing it into a bowl), and it’s really versatile.
I generally use strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, and apples in mine, but if you have another fruit that you want to use, go ahead and throw it in there. If you don’t like kiwi, leave it out. If all you have is frozen fruit, you can go ahead and use that instead.
I recommend that you look at this recipe as more of an example of how you CAN make fruit salsa, not a specific recipe that you need to follow exactly.
Let’s get into it.
How to Make Fruit Salsa
As I mentioned before, this fruit salsa that I made contains strawberries, raspberries, kiwi, and apples. If you’d like to make yours a bit more of a tropical fruit salsa, you can add in some diced pineapple and mango. Basically, figure out whatever fruits you love to eat, and go ahead and throw those in. (One note: I would very strongly recommend against bananas. They will get super mushy and gross, and you will be sad. Consider yourself warned.)
To begin, dice up all of your fruit into approximately 1/4″ cubes. Since raspberries are a little difficult to chop, and they end up breaking down once everything is mixed together, I generally just do a rough chop on those and don’t worry too much what they look like.
I also don’t peel the apple, mostly because I’m lazy and hate peeling apples. But if you want to peel yours, go nuts.
Once everything is diced, dump it all into a big bowl and mix it up.
Then add in a tablespoon or two of fruit preserves. I usually use strawberry jam (because I love strawberries and almost always have it on hand), but for this one, I used a tablespoon of strawberry jam and a tablespoon of seedless raspberry jam.
Using jam gives the salsa a bit of extra flavor while adding some sweetness.
Side note: I got a jar of Cascina San Cassiano Confettura di fragole Strawberry Jam in my Easter basket this year, and it. is. amazing. It’s the closest thing I’ve found to homemade strawberry jam. Word on the streets is that the Easter Bunny got it for $3.99 at HomeGoods, so next time you’re there, try to find some. You won’t regret it.
Now is the time for a taste test. Depending on how sweet your fruit is, the preserves might be enough and you won’t need any additional sweeteners. However, if you live up north like I do, it can be tricky to find super ripe, sweet fruit all year round. If you feel like your salsa is still lacking a bit, you can add in your choice of additional sweetener. I usually use honey, but I’ve also added a bit of stevia or just plain white sugar in the past.
And that, my friends, is it.
I serve this salsa with cinnamon sugar chips, and let me tell you, people go crazy. I can usually find cinnamon sugar chips at the grocery store (sometimes they’re in the organic section, so if you can’t find them with the regular chips, check there), but in case you can’t, here are a couple of options from Amazon.
There you have it! A quick and easy fruit salsa recipe that people will go crazy for at your next get together. If you make this, please let me know what you think by coming back and rating the recipe!
